Priscilla Movie Review
I went to see Priscilla and was very much moved by it. I feel like I have, in my mind, idolized Elvis Presley and ignored any topic about his wife, Priscilla. How she met Elvis at such a young age, her life in Graceland and her times apart from him, how she felt clamped down and forced to be a certain way without her own freedom...all of these topics I felt were delicately and respectfully portrayed. It brought up all kinds of questions and thoughts in my mind too...particularly about the possibility that she was groomed at a young age. How being so young made her in a prime position to be controlled into being Elvis's trophy wife. I got the impression too that there was a level of emotional immaturity that she didn't have that left her with inadequate tools to recognize that she was being controlled and even emotionally abused at times by Elvis. Further, thoughts about 'having everything' but 'still being unhappy' crossed my mind several times during the movie. A particular scene that repeated several times that made an impression on me were when after Elvis left, Priscilla would sit on the couch with her dog. This scene somehow contained in it the feelings of emptiness surrounded by luxury that to me was brilliant filmmaking. I highly recommend this film...whether you are an Elvis fan or not. I give it a 4.5/5. #priscilla #sofiacoppola #moviereview
