My Review of Moonage Daydream

 written  September 23, 2022 If I were to describe #moonagedaydream in two words, I'd call it beautiful chaos. The movie is not a movie at all really, but almost dream-like and a journey of light, music, sound, images, colors, and a peek into an extraordinary man's life from youth to death, as he constantly reinvented himself over time through music and art...becoming in effect a work of art that we can still admire today. I honestly was left feeling a sense of loss and sadness because I did not grow up knowing enough about David Bowie...I knew of him later in his career, through the movie Labyrinth, a few songs in the 80s and through the group Duran Duran who cites him as an influence. To see his life though...presented this way...with a breaking down and reimagining constantly...flowing over itself like a wave through time...with recurring images sort of chaotically put together into a fascinating display (that is almost like a musical score) really challenged my senses....

Priscilla Movie Review

  I went to see Priscilla and was very much moved by it. I feel like I have, in my mind, idolized Elvis Presley and ignored any topic about his wife, Priscilla. How she met Elvis at such a young age, her life in Graceland and her times apart from him, how she felt clamped down and forced to be a certain way without her own freedom...all of these topics I felt were delicately and respectfully portrayed. It brought up all kinds of questions and thoughts in my mind too...particularly about the possibility that she was groomed at a young age. How being so young made her in a prime position to be controlled into being Elvis's trophy wife. I got the impression too that there was a level of emotional immaturity that she didn't have that left her with inadequate tools to recognize that she was being controlled and even emotionally abused at times by Elvis.
