Sarah and her Big Problem
This story poem has my daughter's namesake, Sarah...and she is the main character. Sarah was not a crying child growing up, but I was for sure. The classroom setting and children in it is also meaningful to me because it was one of my favorite places to be growing up...even with the bullies that existed. This story is dedicated to my daughter, Sarah, and the children who cry a lot growing up that just need someone to assure them that everything will be ok...or that need a life lesson that doesn't cost anything to give.

Little Sarah had a problem
She spelled one word wrong on her test
So Sarah cried and cried
Upon her desk
And her test
And soon both of these
Started floating on a river of her tears
And soon the classroom was flooded
Carrying with it all the students and teachers
The river went through the hallways
Picking up books
And more teachers and students along the way
Till it finally crashed through the school doors
And made its way to the school parking lot and playground
Which was surrounded by a brick wall
So that the waves of Sarah's tears crashed upon it.
And soon the buses were caught in it
And the river made a swamp
And no one knew what to do
And still Sarah cried over her misspelled word.
Then it started to rain
And Sarah still cried over the mistake she had made
Rain turned to storm with lightning and thunder
And all around were scared
And Sarah still cried over her blunder
But finally a teacher noticed what was the matter
And swam with a desk under her arm towards Sarah and said
"Sarah, why are you crying?"
And Sarah explained
And the teacher understood and gently explained
That it was not necessary to make something so big out of something so small
The misspelling one word was not bad at all
"Do not be hard on yourself...it accomplishes nothing"
"It's best to learn from your mistake and move onto another something"
And Sarah calmed down and with a blink of her eye
Was back in her classroom and everything was dry!
And Sarah learned something that day that was important
That crying over a misspelled word was not worth it!
